"He ain't," sighs Uncle Frank, "THAT koinda O'Donnell..."

Perfect.

********************************************************

"An agent, an' a stooge," sighs Rosa. "Show business is comp'lcated..."

And it doesn't get less complicated as you get more successful.

********************************************************

Jeeeeeeezuz.

25 times, JFC.

Um.

I think we've found a way for Bink to put all her ice cream eating to good use for Joe.

Coming Events...

No kidding. Change the prices and throw in a lot of owners "locked into" low-rate mortgages and you could write the same strip today. The basic concept is the same.

********************************************************

That's not very nice.

Is that the DL?

********************************************************

1946 marches on...

I agree with much that John Fisher wrote (which always scares me when I say that about a DW article) but their crimes were so monstrous that no earthly punishment seems enough – hence, the almost ennui the writer and so many feel about the Nuremberg trials.

Although opposed capital punishment, I believe Engle is a prime fiend assailant of females
for whom I haven't one iota of sympathy for, and would gladly prosecute towards conviction.

Ms Goudy's cornea transplant surgery success is marvelous and hopefully will prove complete.

Did I see the one and only Dragon Gal's silhouette?

Those resident Big Apple and New England affected by this Nor'easter, best wishes, and stay
inside if at all possible. Looks hellish across YakTube weather advisory and news channel posts.

(An eerie silence hangs over the kitchen on this Saturday morning punctuated only by the tink-tink-tink of water dripping into the icebox pan and the echo of 18th Avenue traffic. At the table, Leonora scowls across the chessboard at her mother, who squints intently thru her glasses at the layout of the pieces. Chewing at a corner of her lip, Sally extends her hand toward a knight and sees her daughter tense. Sally stares an assassin's stare as she shifts the knight into position, knocking aside an intruding pawn. Triumphantly, she esc orts the captive piece to its prison, and smirks with assured satisfaction. Her face stone, Leonora reaches out, sails a marauding bishop across the board, and confiscates the knight. Sally's eyes dilate dangerously. Entering the kitchen, Stella the Cat mews a greeting. "SHHHHHHHHHH!" hiss the players, as the tension mounts......)

The sad thing is, while some of the particulars would have to be changed, the general problem is probably worse today, eighty years later. The 2026 omnipresence of cops, barricades and such at Jewish temples in NYC is sad proof.

BTW, the tension in the chess game is fantastic. The shushing of Stella is perfect.

*********************************************************

I was wondering if somebody would say this.

Hank Greenberg is the real deal. And unlike a lot of his colleagues, he didn't spend the war playing Army ball.

And we end where we started, eighty years later and we aren't really doing any better.

Moons ago, while commuting back home one night, I ran into a Washington Huskies subway car
clique enroute hotel and a Chicago steak; and, I confessed Notre Dame would get its
assed kicked the next day. This is what happens when liberals in the Theology Department
ride off the reservation and anger the Almighty. The football team takes it in the chops
on Saturday game day national television.

That brunette woman seated bridge table sounds more HuShee than Dragon Gal.
Back to Riverdance, if Nasty is overboard, looks a definite page turn.

Any idea why tomorrow is special? Isn't all this driven by your birthday or when you first got your license? Shouldn't that reduce this kind of pileup? Or was this like stupid moving day when they used to funneled the entire month's moves into one chaotic day?

********************************************************

All right, we know Jane Allen. Now about this gal in the glasses.....

I don't know, but I like her already.

I tried this with the city assessor last year, and it didn't work.

My irritation with gov't bureaucrats isn't that they are all bad – they are not at all, all bad – it's that if you do encounter a truly bad one, you realize you are all but powerless as they have all the levers to pull on their side.

As of 1946, a New York state driver's license is good for three years, but it always expires on September 30th of the third year. Before 1943, it expired annually. The September 30th expiration date continued into the 1960s...

View attachment 813219
That sounds like an idiotic idea, but maybe most people renewed in advance or something. Other than for the new super ID one (which I had to go in person for several years ago to get), NY moved to fully online renewal, which I did last year and it was fantastic. Yes, a bit confusing and if you aren't reasonably computer literate (I'm talking to my mother now) good luck, but otherwise, a half hour of reading and clicking and ten minutes online with an optometrist for a virtual eye test (which was surprisingly well done) beats going in person and losing half a day or more.

Anyone know who Big Jane is? Handle rings a definite lezbo vibe but more objective
perspective suggests waiting instead of rushing the adjective presume.
Jane Russell comes to mind with her pneumatic voluptuous form, but she is strictly
stateside studio straw siren now. Any foreign promotional would likely be British, not Chinese.
Anyway, the door swings but not shut for Smythe-Heatherstone. Still, it would make poetic justice
if Nastalthia found herself lesbian claimant after what she did to Charles.
Karma is a motherhood. ;):eek::oops:o_O

She was a WAC sergeant that Terry ran into when he was in the CBI. She had a fellow WAC roommate, also named Jane, that everybody naturally called "Little Jane." "Big Jane's" lover was Snake Tumblin, commander of Terry's squadron, whose plane was shot down and last seen burning in a river. But his body was never found....

I had a vague memory of "the Janes," but this strip is so helpful. Thank you. Most of the story came rushing back after seeing this strip.
