Well, Illinois got whacked...:( We have a lot of people in adjoining counties hit by the multiple ) tornadoes that went through Illinois Thursday evening (Streator got hit by no less than two large tornadoes).

Many, many homes that are uninhabitable if not totally destroyed in multiple counties in Illinois and Indianna.

So Friday I was out with our County EMA Damage Assessment Team to help out two other local Illinois counties who got hit hard to help them with field documentation of the damage to homes with additional boots on the ground. My county sent a seven person team including me.

Luckily, while we (My Home Counties) too had a couple of tornadoes we were very minimally impacted. So for this thread I was wearing what has become my duty hat, a relatively modern Dobbs.

Be safe everyone, and be sure you keep up with loved ones. You just do not know what can happen with little or no notice...........
Very sad to hear of the destruction. Very glad to see that s-e-x-y Dobbs with the cutter crease!

Another STUNNING array this week, Stefan! For me, the Panizza Misto takes the gold, the Barbisio Radio takes the silver, and the Mayser Special takes the bronze. Thank you for the show and safe travels!

Barbisio Muschio: Oooh La! La!(yes, I know it's green) Which is why I love it.

Love how that black furfelt really works with the Hawaiian shirt. Your whole ensemble is ****** proof.

What a kind compliment, thank you.

Like Stefan, we shall be away for a day or two. I can't get used to this retirement malarky. I still get a guilt trip at not having to go to work on Monday morning, but I haven't got as far as turning over and going back to sleep.

The bespoke hat is one of Susquehana's, and just for Jeff, who is so complimentary. The blazer is also made to measure by John Parrett at Fox Tailoring. The shoes likewise courtesy of Cordwainer, Colin Johnson Shoes and there's a lady in my life who made my shirt and trousers. The socks and tie are retail.

Wolfbrae Panama @belfastboy - LOVE this one - the green undertone in the ribbon we picked really works here.

Brooks Brothers jacket my wife got me for like a dollar at a thrift store - required zero alterations. All 93 of my ties are her thrift store finds - this is the one area where I’m not allowed to contribute lol. Apparently I have terrible taste in ties

Pulled on a nice blue Borsalino hemp braid today. Wonderfully soft comfy hat, but its almost floppy. Have been thinking of doing a bit of shellacking so its got a bit more body and the brim holds it shape better. ( Im leaning towards a flatter brim with just a smidgen of front/ rear swoop) . Ive got a quart of really thin super blonde shellac mixed up on the shelf that should do the trick

SO far so good... Since I already had a thin shellac mixed up and the hat was clean, it went quick. Sprayed on a light even coating inside and out, and after an hour of drying its already much better. ( prob should have waited a bit longer but my curiosity got the better of me lol) Not what Id call stiff at all but it hold shape much better. Still feels a hair damp so Im going to let it dry on a curved brim board till totally dry. If its not quite to my liking by the end of the day, Ill spray another light coat and let it sit still overnight. The brim wonkiness appears to be under control.

Last time I used shellac on a hat, I had mixed it up as a 3-1 mix of Everclear to shellac flakes. I used it on an old wool hat and it was way too stiff. Had to dissolve the shellac out and start over. I went back with a thinner 5:1 everclear to flake mix... worked much better. This mix is what Im working with today. ( I figure its better to add another coat later than trying to remove too much). Applying with a pump spray bottle ( too easy to get too much mix applied by brush). Will need to steam and tweak the bash creases a bit, but Im going to let it fully dry first.

Will steam make it stiff?

Though the calendar says June and it's officially summer, we're still waiting for it to arrive in Denmark.
Just 14 days in, it's the wettest month of the year so far.

Ah, well, every cloud has a silver lining. The low temperature and, for once this month, no rain meant I could take my Hornskov Diamond out for a spin.

Hopefully, I might be able to break out some straws soon. The weather looks like it's going to be more summer like later in the coming week.
