Hmmm... sell them to a warlord wirh lots or weapons?Good to hear from you, Max, even if you're on your way out.
So what's to become of your hat storage safes?
In 1978 I bought a Stetson 3X from Miller Stockman in Denver. I paid $53, if that helps. In the 70’s a 3X Western would have sold for around $30. At $63.50 I think you might be off by a decade, maybe post- Urban Cowboy era.
I’ve been called much worse, so thank you! With the obvious caveat that no guy wants to be called cute, I feel obligated to point out that you two are pretty adorable together. Living as an ex-pat in Japan seems like a fairy tale to me lol. I’d love to hear the back story on how this came about someday - assuming there is an internet-friendly version available.
Great hats as always.
Found it, thank you - nice story, thanks for sharing.I’ve been called much worse, so thank you!
The back story has actually appeared on this very thread.

Thanks. You made Etsuko happy!Yours is nice but I LOVE that hat she is wearing! Sure looks great on her too......our wives are supposed to outshine us, and Etsuko certainly does here.
What a fantastic and rare hat, Steve - I love it!L. B. Hats "Prima Original", Czechoslovakia possibly 1930s. This is Wool Homburg with a tall Crown and with a pliable Taupe color Wool Felt and the contrasting Band and Briming colors work very well together. I found this Homburg back in 2019.

L B Hats was owned by A. und J. Löw-Beers Söhne Elisenthal (Post Brünnlitz) Czechoslovakia. They were Wool producers and also made Men's and Women's Wool Felt Hats and Wool Stumps. I found this by accident when I was looking through the December 20, 1930 addition of Österreich Hutmache Zeitung.

I'm still not entirely sure what the composition of the 'braid' is. It has that matte feel of my Stetson Stratoliners that are hemp, but pretty sure from the blurb on HatsDirect.com (https://hatsdirect.com/products/the-townsman-navy-summer-braid - Wentworth Hat Company is a new, house brand for them, so far limited to the Townsman in navy and natural, another straw-type that's more like an Aussie bush hat, and some wool caps) that it's a manmade of some sort. Whatever it is, it's a lovely thing to wear, fits really true to size. On the stiff side, but I suspect that (like my old Akubra Capricorns) that will change over time, softening up with wear. Very slight taper to the crown; to my eye, they've nailed that late-40s, sporty look they were goin for. Certainly feels very natural switching to this from a Stratoliner.
I'll be interested to see what HD do next with this brand. No idea if they're considering furfelts, but if they did a Federation in this braid, in a nice dark brown colour, I'd be right in there.
