Got back to the Bay last night and went to my office to find a vintage hat stretcher I just bought from Rodney Allison @ North Valley Hat Company waiting for me. While I have a Borsalino Como that just came in on the rack, I am wearing my new navy blue Lock and Co. St. James fedora today.

ive got an almost identical stretcher from the mid 40s... art deco casting designs in the base... love it and use it
frequently. solid unit and a good pickup for you!

I was waiting for the right one to come along and Mr. Allison put one up for sale at a good price. I saw it just as he posted it and when I responded, he asked me to call him to confirm the sale. Great to speak with him for a 1/2 hour. Later, I stopped in to B.M. Franklin in Atlanta and was speaking with the guys there. Turns out, I had just beaten out one of their hatters to getting the stretcher. He reached out 6 mins after it was posted on FB Marketplace. I got in at 3! Small world.

I love things emblematic of the Art Deco era. Here’s my S & S hat stretcher/wrecker, nowhere near as nice and clean as @RickP ’s.

But then, I found a rare bird; a fine find, a fantastic Feldman.
It’s the only one I’ve seen, and appears to be at least a couple of decades earlier than the S & S.

It’d be a stretch to think I need 2 of these.

The last hat I wore was a Borsalino product, dating back to the years when hats were fading from the heads of many young and old men around the world. For women, it was a different story.

Yet, with the skills to produce felt, not because Italy is a country rich in furs, but with a solid experience with wool, Borsalino performed near-miracles, so as the others Italian hatters.

To demonstrate their skill in producing quality felt, even outside of the designated areas, here's a hat made from scratch in Merano, South Tyrol, by the Matthias Hutter company.

This was a "Tyrolean" hat reworked by Fleur di Penumbra hat in the Netherlands.
The shape chosen, as well as the hat band, is that of a casual hat.

But I ended up going for the higher crown of the Emissary.

The Campdraft really WAS a good choice today.... Someone who shall remain nameless decided to enlarge his mud feature out in the yard this morning...lol. ( It took 2 cu ft of dirt to refill it in)..Its wintertime so I dont have a waterhose hooked up..... I was out on my knees in the rain under the Akubra with a big tub full of warm water scrubbing Mr Bear back to a dingy white state. Hat survived just fine. Oh the joy of Labrador puppies!!!!

This morning hat pictures proves he WAS clean and white at daybreak
