What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

You've seen the latest fur arrivals.
Today, Sunday, we return to the old ones, gathered in four hat cases where they've been together for years.

A Borsalino Qualità Ssuperiore in the "Ghiaccio" color, with a "Marina" hatband, meaning dark blue.
View attachment 751063
It arrived a few years ago in less than perfect condition (see the ribbon), but has been petted and brought to a good state.

Every time I find a "furry" Borsalino, I wonder where the felt comes from—whether it's homemade or supplied by another manufacturer.

In this case, the felt is extremely soft and very malleable, of medium weight.
The rest will arrive in the next few days, weather permitting.

I take this opportunity to wish you a happy Sunday and thank you for your kind words.
A lovely hat for sure!

Hey Nathan—

Thanks for the kind words!

I’m alive and well—trying to give my brain a break from social media/the internet in general and give my wallet a break from buying hats. Not entirely successful on either front but doing pretty well. As Phil noted, I have been downsizing as well—trying to get down to just the hats I really like and actually wear. I did join Brent’s vintage hat group on FB but have only popped in a couple of times.

Hope you are well, feeling healthy and, of course, enjoying the fine fedora weather!

Cheers,

David
Glad to hear you are doing well, David.

Celebrated my friend’s 60th in this 1930s Marathon dark blue heather decked out in Miami Dolphins colors. We got a chance to meet 2002 Pro Bowler and Dolphins Legend defensive end Adewale Ogunleye While we cheered on the fins on to a win over the New Orleans Saints And though we spent much of the day drenched in downpour when the rain let up we got treated to a rainbow from our perch near the top of Hard Rock Stadium… with the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel in the background.

Damp chilly morning here in East Texas. Good time for some leather and soft felt. Today its a Sovereign Stetson Temple in Sage. Believe its from the mid 90s. This ones been one of the softest modern Stetsons Ive run across and has been one of my favorites since it got here. Jacket is a lambskin Orvis Fishing School bomber

A hat and a pet in one. And it doesn't come begging for food! Wonderful hat, Daniele
Thanks Stefan. What can I add, except that today's Sunday part is worth remembering.
Woot!!! What an outstanding hat, Daniele!!
Mark molte grazie. Each of your hats is a piece in the album of the little-seen here in Italy, therefore it is pure pleasant knowledge
A lovely hat for sure!
Joe grazie. You have a perseverance in pursuing fantastic quality hats. Bravo. Bravissimo!

Echter Borsalino "Bismuto" "Sanboca", NOS Condition, Date Stamped 17.5.29 (May 17, 1929). The felt is very soft and pliable with a unique box bow design for this style hat and also has a wind cord. It has an fantastic over welt curled brim and the non-reed sweatband is very finely stitched to the hat. I found this Soft Felt back in 2015. This is one of three fantastic Echter Borsalino hats from a Berlin estate sale. The seller was very confusing and I wasn't sure I would actually receive the hats.

The Berlin store / hat company "Max Eckard" that sold this hat did not survive WWII. The box is from a different Berlin hat store "Philipp Neubauer Berlin" that survived WWII but not the locations listed.

Pale sun in NorthEast Italy.
FOLCO Bors AAA.jpg

Giuseppe Borsalino e fratello S.A. Alessandria - Super Quality. There are six Xs on the front of the sweatband, but they don't mean anything. Let's get serious.
FOLCO Bors 1.jpg
The distinctive feature of this "furry" hat is its very short-haired surface with a "silk" effect, which you can see from the shiny reflections it creates when hit by light.
FOLCO Bors D.jpg
It was made relatively recently, about fifty years ago. 1976 was the year it was produced.
FOLCO Bors A.jpg
The color is "Folco" and it has no name for the type.
It is an ancient find and joins others with similar characteristics that you will see this December 2025.
FOLCO Bors AA.jpg

Thank you for your likes and kind words.
