One can always wear a hat in the rain to the dentist...
Oh, it was brutal rain & I took two buses. I opted for Pashima wrap on my head to stay dry under an umbrella.
Los Angeleans don't like rain & they can't drive in it. Rains for 4 days & we're having nervous breakdowns!

Windy too so would not want to be chasing it across the street. :D

Got a little post office shipping dust brushed off of a newly arrived 5x Stetson ... It took the long way to get here... Wichata Falls Tx to Crockett, Tx (via Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Louisiana lol) Time for some fresh air this morning. The Tag Removal Fairy hit one so the size tag is the only documentation left inside. ( not sure of age or model.. Im guessing early 2000s) 3-1/2" brim 5-1/2" crown. Overall in pretty decent shape. One little hole on the brim ( to me it looks like some idiot had a price tag punch tool). Should be able to sand off some felt from inside and plug it up. Really just needs a little steaming and a couple of areas of spot cleaning,. Leveling the brim just a bit and smooth out a couple wrinkles... it will be good to go.... Im leaving this one as a flat swooped brim. Ill take a look straightening the crunched up feather, but Im thinking Ill just make up a new tickler out of some Guinea feathers Ive got

Looks like a nice felt. 5 1/2 inch is a tall crown for me. My CattleKing is 5 inch & I think that's about as tall a crown as a person under 5 foot should wear. Great idea to fix a hole or deep moth nibble. If they are shallow a light gradual sanding might make it less visible but never though about taking some sanded felt from a hidden area & fill in some deep nibbles. What kind of adhesive would work with that?

Yesterday, I had the honor of sharing the screen with two of my dear hat brethren: Paul John Murphy of PJ Murphy & Son and Brad Bowers, better known as The Hatted Professor (joined on-screen by his cat, Gracie). Paul brought serious craftsmanship to the stream, wearing one of his own PJ Murphy & Son fedoras, a beautifully balanced beaver–rabbit fur blend that showed exactly why his family name carries so much respect in the hat community. Brad reached deep into history with his Stetson derby from the 1910’s — an authentic piece of hat heritage that looked like it had stepped straight out of a sepia photograph and onto the livestream. As for me, I kept things crisp and classic with my 1950’s Knox boater.

Just received this today in a lot of hats I bought in an auction. Trying to educate myself. Have no intention of keeping it but the unusual burnt organge and severely tall crown is very over the top, literally. I would love to know more about it.

if I remember correctly, at the request to Stetson by young congressman who bred them for their high meat quality compared to other breeds from this era.
Woot!!!!!!! RIGHT in my wheelhouse with that one! Very nice, Randall! And unless I miss my guess, that young politician would likely have been Samuel Roy McKelvie, who served in the Nebraska House of Representatives from 1911 to 1913, and as the Governor of Nebraska from 1919 to 1923. He later served as the first president of the Sandhills Cattle Association, from 1940 to 1949.

Yes, you’re correct!
Good ole Sam. He and I went to different schools together. Weird, but in different decades.
In fact, his Mom and my Mom…were both Mothers.
Yep.
