Post New Hats Here!

[Phineas Lamour]

Just picked this one up at an antique shop the other day. No marks showing who made it, just the name of a hat shop.

[mayserwegener]

Hutfabrik Heinrich Schneider, "Taunus Hut", possibly early 1960s. This is very nice made later Homburg. The felt and components are various shades of brown. The liner is stitched in but there is no paper label. I had a couple other HHS hats but unfortunately not well documented.

Welcome to the Lounge!

[mayserwegener]

Echter Borsalino, shred of a Paper Label, measures 58 cm, possibly 1920s. This Stiff Felt turned out to be a very unique find. I have never seen this type of super offset Bow. Great form and very high quality components.

[mayserwegener]

Hückel Wien, 58 cm, possibly early 1950s. There is no paper label but there is 58 cm round size tag. The Sweatband seam is glued and all the Hückel Weilheim hats I checked have stitched seams. The Felt is very light weight and extremely pliable which is also not like any Hückel Weilheim hat I have but this one could be earlier. Great form with contrasting black Band and light gray Binding.

Open Crown

I have a similar Hückel Wien made for Carl Kellner Hamburg. Its Felt has similar characteristics.

Two fabulous finds, Steve. If I had to choose I'd go for the Hückel.

"Note: a fellow eBayer prompted me to reassess the color of the hat from white to off-white.”

The above is quoted from the seller’s listing and I really want to thank TFL Hat POlice/Troll(s) for pointing this out to the seller so they could pass it on to us colorblind bidders. For without this, I’m not sure I would have made an informed decision. Just kidding, in case anyone was wondering.

I’m kidding about everything except the Hat POlice/Trolls being members here part. That’s a real thing. It’s gone on for some time but hasn’t come up with a hat I’ve been interested in for awhile, at least that I know of and it didn’t affect the purchase of this one. It has affected at least one in the past due to changes in the listing.

It’s curious to me that folks develop such an interest (obsession) in hats that they troll eBay looking for opportunities to correct a sellers listing. What self adulation that must bring; correcting sellers on hat colors, eras and such. What a public service!

The problem with this is it even further diminishes the slim chance that an informed buyer might occasionally run across a bargain. Of course they would never provide such a service regarding a hat they were interested in buying. These are the same member(s) that brag about bargains and thrift store finds and then post those finds in this thread before sending it on to the bay. I wonder if they ever tell the thrift shop folks what they really had? I’m kidding again.

Quite a nice white…. Er. Uh.. off-white hat you got there, Greg

A nice Resistol that went under the radar as the auction house only showed interior pics of the size tag and “DeKalb Winner” and never mentioned Resistol or San Antonio. It was simply listed as “Hat”.

These are as arrived, so excuse the dust.

The horsehair band was a nice bonus

“If it fits, it ships!”

This is the referenced DeKalb I’m pretty sure.

They gave a top FFA award per chapter (since 1947) and this might have been part of that.

Nice find Bob, especially with the horse hair band. Would it have had a liner back in its day?

Not your size, I notice. Wink, wink.

[BobHufford]

Borsalino Buntal. It came with the Stack.

Holes from a thrift store stapler?

Hole at the pinch.

Again … if it fits.

Hat roulette where I may have sent the ball sailing off the wheel. I’ll probably end up losing on this lot.

A wool Western with a fake leather sweat.

A late ‘20s or ‘30s (?) Dobbs derby with some issues.

Guessing it was from the Franklin store based on what was behind the sweat.

[Yamahana]

I gave the hat roulette a whirl as well.
This is what I bought.

But this is what I got.

A Royal Stetson I bought last year, dates about late 40's to early 50's. 2 1/2 inch raw brim. Couldn't think of a good Stetson thread to post it to, so it's here. For an inexpensive hat, the felt has a wonderful feel.

Mike, you just seem to be on a roll with your Borsalino and Stetson finds.

Inexpensive maybe, great get definitely!!
