The fit is just about perfect, congrats. The back fit is sometimes tricky with these, but perfect in this case.

Thanks! The leather is quite stiff in the back but since the action back opens and the shoulder area is quite wide It's comfortable.
Oh, I know! They just never know what to gift me so I figured if this fit me It would make for a good present. That's what I'm telling myself but I'll probably pick something last minute.

I've owned a few LW jackets and the Trojan I got from Japan was the best one I owned or every saw. Unfortunately too small for me. I had a hard time selling it, which I never understood.
The Japanese market jackets were made with lighter but substantial leather unlike most LW jackets of today. Very much like the original..
I have seen a few others from this time that were equally impressive, mostly the lighter leather.
I still own my original Test in the 4.5 ounce. It is the best Bad Weather jacket, but a little too much at times.

They are. They are the supplier of leather jackets to RM. I guess technically speaking, it is Japanese brand owned by a Japanese owner made for the Japanese market. On the other hand they as you said just copied old jackets and perhaps shrink them a little bit and the machinists are New Zealanders.
The new RM are not only made in Japan. They also modified the pattern. The old RM are higher end reenactment repros. The new RM at least has some design input into the old patterns and is more a niche street fashion brand like Tenderloin and At Last.
At times, I think the old RM (save the workwear division) is the high end WPG, ATF or WW2 impressions.

US Navy issued peacoat from the 50s (Kersey wool) arrived today and is chilling in the freezer:
